The Hungarian Human Rights Foundation, represented by HHRF Fellow and volunteer at the Summit, Imola Vass, actively participated in the International Religious Freedom Summit held in Washington, D.C. January 29-31, 2024, in order to raise awareness about the most egregious religious rights violation affecting Hungarians: Romania’s failure to restitute thousands of properties confiscated from religious denominations under communism. This outstanding event provided us with a valuable platform to spotlight the recent decision of the Romanian Supreme Court before key decisionmakers, NGOs and human rights advocates. The inaugural event took place at the Embassy of Hungary in Washington DC, featuring notable figures such as Hungarian State Secretary Azbej Tristan, IRF Co-Chairs Katrina Lantos Swett, and Ambassador Sam Brownback.
Noteworthy speakers included Speaker Mike Johnson and former Vice President Mike Pence. The summit serves as a dynamic platform for religious freedom advocates from around the world to foster global collaboration and understanding. The hundreds of attendees had the unique opportunity to engage in constructive dialogues, exchange perspectives, and build meaningful connections.
