Kelemen Hunor, president of Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), is pushing for amendments to the laws related to restitution cases initiated by the Romanian state. The politician argues that clearer legislation is needed to stop the lawsuits being filed against the owners of restituted communal properties. He emphasized this in the context of a recent ruling by the Kézdivásárhely/ Târgu Secuiesc Court, which returned over 2,500 hectares of forest to state ownership in the case of the Ozsdola/ Ojdula communal property.

In a podcast interview with Maszol, Kelemen Hunor stated that the law needs to be clarified in order to prevent similar lawsuits from the Romanian state. He reminded listeners that in many cases, the Romanian government attempts to reclaim properties that were returned to former owners after the fall of the communist regime.

The RMDSZ president firmly supports the need to clarify current laws, especially regarding expropriations before the communist nationalization. He added that the legislation applies only to the 1948 nationalization, so the 1921 land reform should not be considered. However, if this logic were followed, we could go back to the conditions of 1914 or even 1848, which would make no sense, Kelemen Hunor noted.

The politician stated that RMDSZ will need parliamentary partners to pass the necessary legal amendments. He hopes this will be possible after the upcoming parliamentary elections, which is why the alliance aims for a role in government.
